Request a Greet

We heard about Düsseldorf greeters from a tutor at my daughter’s college and even though ours was a last-minute trip, we thought we would ask in case a greeter was available. 

We were delighted to receive a call from Johannes the following day, who arranged to meet us at our hotel on the second day of our trip. And honestly, this MADE our trip.

We had a brilliant day as Johannes took us around Düsseldorf. He was very generous with his time and knowledge. 

My daughter had a particular interest in the Düsseldorf-Japan relationship and Johannes thoughtfully created a tour that included Nordpark (where lots of the cosplayers gather - cosplaying is another of my daughter’s interests), the Japan EKO haus, the hotel with the memorial to Louis Kniffler -the first German ambassador to Japan in the 1880s and  Immermannstraße / Little Tokyo.

We also learned about Radschlagen and about how Pokemon Go took over Königsallee! We had Kaffee und Kuchen. We learned ‘ist das Kunst oder kann es weg?’, we saw the ghost stickers, the many murals and the  Säulenheiligen. We saw where the Toten Hosen did a concert from a windowsill in the Altstadt, and where Ed Sheeran did a tiny concert in an Irish pub. And Johannes had a song lyric for every occasion!

We packed absolutely loads into one day (walking 23000 steps in the process), laughed a lot and enjoyed every minute. I can honestly say I am so happy we discovered Greeters - our Düsseldorf trip was 100 times better as a result. Thank you Johannes, we will recommend you and Greeters to everyone visiting Düsseldorf.

I want to share my wonderful experience in Düsseldorf with Claudia. We met early in the morning near to Carlsplatz Markt and began our walking tour. I didn’t just enjoy exploring the city and visiting its many tourist attractions, but also the engaging and insightful conversation I had with Claudia.

She shared her perspective as a local and how Düsseldorf has evolved over the years. Understanding how locals think gives you a deeper appreciation for why the city is so culturally rich compared to many others around the world.

It was the best tour I’ve ever taken. I absolutely loved the slogan, “Come as a guest, leave as a friend”, because I genuinely felt that.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take a selfie with Claudia, but I left Düsseldorf with incredible memories. If I return to Düsseldorf, there’s no doubt I’ll reach out to Claudia again.

Thank you so much for the wonderful afternoon yesterday. Kenny and I both enjoyed it so much. We got to see so much of doodle Dorf and we also enjoyed very very very much spending time with you and with Sue. Looking forward to seeing you I hope in New York sometime soon.

What a treat to have Claudia as our greeter! She shared many special places in Dusseldorf, along with her personal insights and explanations that we would have otherwise missed without her guidance. She even sent us a detailed map of how to use the public transportation to get to our hotel. We felt more a part of the city with experiences like walking through a festival, sharing a typical beer at the oldest pub, hearing about the buildings, learning about history and the origin of the city's name. We so enjoyed her warm and caring spirit. She made our short visit to her home city unforgettable! 

We are writing to express great gratitude to our greeter Iris. 

It was a very cold day, but Iris showed us warmest welcome and took us to many secret spots. She was very professional, made a lot of preparations and shared with us many interesting stories about Architecture, History and Culture.  We had a wonderful city walk and much laughter with her.  We would definitely like to share with our friends about our unforgettable experience with International Greeter Association.

My greeter Iris was so kind and took care of me so well. She arranged a great pick up spot, ensured we had solid time to walk and do sightseeing and rest, sit down to reflect properly. Not only discussing the history of Düsseldorf but also she shared with me tips on daily life in the city, which is really helpful for me as an international student in Germany. She took into great consideration my preference that I let her know in my application, and I truly appreciate the wisdom, knowledge and time she spent for me.  Attached is our photo am Rhein. I wish Iris and all other greeters great health and fulfilling meetings with many more wonderful guests in the world.

 "The Greeters project in Dusseldorf is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the life of the city for a few hours together with a local resident.  This is not a classic excursion with numbers and dates, it is a conversation between two people, as if one friend came to visit another.  In one day, I saw and learned more about the spirit of the city and how it is - to live in Düsseldorf. When planning our trip we wanted to experience the city from a local. Our Greeter Walter met us outside our hotel and spent 3 hours with us showing us his city of Düsseldorf including the pubs and restaurants he frequents. It was special hearing about his life in Düsseldorf and also some private stories. His insights enhanced our experience in the city. Without Walter we would not have explored and discovered Düsseldorf like we did.

I really enjoyed the walk and talk with you which had opened the door to explore Dusseldorf further.

It was amazing to know how you planned the tour, especially when rain started falling on just arriving at Uerige so that we could have the grass of altbier. 

Plus the shot of Killpitch was a surprising but welcoming offer, and we are much safer against COVID19 even after being vaccinated twice.
