About the Greeters

Come as a guest, leave as a friend
Düsseldorf - Greeter
The idea

The idea was born in 1992 in New York when Lynn Brooks initiated the Big Apple Greeters. Since then Greeter groups have been established in more than 130 cities and regions around the world, from Argentina to Vietnam.

All Greeter groups share the same basic values.

Greeters welcome guests to their city / region and accompany them on a two- to three-hour, very personal tour beyond the guide books and off the beaten tracks.
Greeters are volunteers who love their city / region and like to share this love with their guests.
During a tour you will explore the city on foot or by public transport. Whether you visit a city for the first time or regularly, the greeters are looking forward to seeing you. And of course, Düsseldorf residents are also welcome to potentially get a different view of their city.
  • What is a Greet?

We meet our guests on eye level during a two to three hour walk and are also interested in their background. That's how guests can become friends.

  • How much is a Greet?

A Greet is free. We enjoy meeting you and showing you our city. But we are very happy about donations (e.g. for flyers)

  • How to request a Greet?

At the latest two weeks before your arrival you should contact us via the contact form and indicate the desired date for a Greet. The sooner we receive your data, the greater the chance that we will find a suitable greeter.

  • How do guest and greeter come together?

As soon as we have found a Greeter fitting to a certain request, the guest receives all the necessary contact information (name, phone number, and eMail-address) to make an arrangement about date, time and place of meeting. A copy goes to the Greeter. From that time on, guest and Greeter are on their own.

In the rare case that no Greeter is available, we unfortunately have to turn down the request.

  • Whom can I contact if I have further questions?

    Please contact us via eMail:

Ask Greet

Greeters welcome guests in their city and take them on an individual tour - without any payment.
We love our city and accompany you through our city - completely free, as is customary among friends. You will experience very personal and individual tours and you can learn about our everyday life.

What is a Greet?

In a "Greet" a local takes you on a walk through his/her city and shows you from his very personal point of view. A "Greet" usually takes about two to three hours, we go with individual travelers and small groups up to 6 people. The walk is free, we are happy about a donation to support our idea.
